Vianden Castle tickets cover entry to the castle, not the journey from Luxembourg City. A standard self-guided visit, a guided castle visit and a country excursion are three different choices. Decide which one you need before comparing prices. For a flexible day in Vianden, ordinary entry is the simplest starting point.
Standard adult entry is €13. Students aged 13 and over with a student card pay €7, and children aged 6 to 12 pay €4. The castle says a normal self-guided visit needs no advance reservation. A transport-inclusive excursion costs separately and should state whether castle entry is included. Facts checked 14 October 2026.
Vianden Castle tickets: standard entry
The castle visitor page lists adult entry at €13, student entry at €7 and entry for children aged 6 to 12 at €4. These standard prices include a €1 municipal tourist tax. The mobile-phone audio guide is listed at €2, so entry and commentary are not the same purchase.
Student entry needs a student card. Do not assume a discount applies simply because someone is young. The source does not list every age case. Check directly for a younger child or a discount not shown.
Groups of at least 15 have their own rates:
- Adults: €11 per person.
- Students: €6 per person.
- Children aged 6 to 12: €3.50 per person. Group rules are useful only when your actual group meets them. A family of four does not become a qualifying group by joining a general entrance queue.
Vianden Castle tickets with a guide or excursion
A guided visit inside the castle is distinct from an audio guide. The visitor page asks visitors to arrange a guided tour with the castle administration. Its listed guided-group pricing includes a €95 guide charge, for a maximum of 40 people, plus the stated per-person entry charges. Confirm group size, language and availability before treating that as a complete quote.
An excursion from Luxembourg City is a wider itinerary. It can include a vehicle and stops at other sights, with a set return time. Look for a country excursion that expressly includes Vianden Castle entry. Check that inclusion in the current itinerary rather than relying on Vianden in the tour title.
Before booking, compare the pickup city, time at the castle, entry inclusion, walking demands and return plans. Do not pay twice for entry that the tour already includes. Do not assume that a short photo stop means an interior visit. Lunch and a personal guide inside the castle also need their own inclusion check.

Entry times and event exceptions
The castle opens at 10:00 with seasonal closing times. It closes at 18:00 in April through September, 17:00 in March and October, and 16:00 in the winter months. Last entry is 30 minutes before closing. The visitor page lists three closure dates:
- 1 January.
- 2 November.
- 25 December.
Last entry is a limit, not a suggested arrival time. Arriving with half an hour left can make a visit feel rushed. Choose a time that leaves room for the visitor circuit and the approach from your arrival point. Allow more margin if you need an audio guide or a slower pace.
Special events use different conditions. The medieval festival has separate entry plans, and the tourism page says the LuxembourgPass is not valid during that event. The standard visitor page also says guided tours are not possible during the festival. Verify the next event's actual dates rather than reusing a past summer schedule.
Choose entry around the person visiting
Buying a ticket does not settle access. The tourism notes describe a steep cobbled approach and a circuit with many stairs. Some halls and the visitor centre have step-free access. Ask which parts you can reach if stairs or steep paths are a concern. A tour vehicle does not change the indoor route.
The castle does not permit dogs according to its visitor page. A dog-friendly town plan and a castle interior visit need different plans. Check child ages and student proof before you reach the desk. Read the group rules too. Keep the source page handy if a discount is unclear.
For a wider plan, the main castle guide explains the visit and travel choices. The Vianden guide helps you leave time for the town. The Luxembourg castle comparison is useful if you are still deciding which site to visit.
FAQ
Must I book normal entry in advance?
The castle's current visitor page says an advance reservation is not necessary for a normal self-guided visit. That does not promise entry to every event or a guided appointment. Check the event rules if you visit on a special date. Read the opening notice before you travel.
Does the LuxembourgPass cover Vianden Castle?
The tourism page lists a free castle visit with the LuxembourgPass. It also gives an exact exception for the medieval festival. Check pass validity for your dates and the exact entry type you need. A pass benefit does not automatically include an excursion, a private guide or every extra.
Are castle tours the same as day tours from Luxembourg City?
No. A castle tour concerns the site visit; a day excursion may add transport and several other stops. The title alone is not enough to compare them. Read the pickup details and inclusions, then check how much of the schedule is actually spent inside Vianden Castle.
Can I buy an audio guide instead of entry?
An audio guide is an extra way to hear commentary during your visit. The castle lists a mobile-phone guide charge separately from entry. It does not replace the entry ticket. If you are using a pass or joining an excursion, check whether the audio guide is already included before paying again.
Verdict: match Vianden Castle tickets to your day
Choose normal Vianden Castle tickets if you want to manage your own arrival and stay in town afterwards. Arrange a guided visit if the commentary matters most. Compare an entry-inclusive excursion if several rural stops justify its fixed schedule. The country-day guide helps you decide which plan fits the time you have.
